The Hunter is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Mastodon. Released through Roadrunner Records [8] on September 26, 2011, in the UK [9] and one day later in the US via Reprise Records, [10] The Hunter is their first release with producer Mike Elizondo.

After only a few spins of the disc, I'm already willing to rank "The Hunter" as my top album of 2011, right next to Red Fang's "Murder The Mountains". In the Mastodon catalogue, I'd rank it higher than "Blood Mountain", but it doesn't match "Leviathan" or "Crack The Skye".

Mastodon have unveiled the cover art for their new album, The Hunter, which you can check out below. The follow-up to 2009's Crack The Skye is due out this fall. emergencydog. 85. The Hunter is indeed a step down comparing to Crack the Skye. It might even be in competition for their worst record ever yet I would argue that Mastodon have never produced a genuinely bad record. The Hunter has some highlights but a majority of the songs are rather forgettable.
